Daisy May
Daisy May was my first foray into lapstrake or “clinker” plywood construction and is a Tom Hill design. At the time she was built I was living in a tiny apartment in Corvallis OR and had no space to work and no tools, but I did have a copy of Tom’s book “Ultralight Boatbuilding” and that was enough to get me started. A co-worker lent me some space in their garage and a co-conspirator snuck me into the woodshop at the University of Oregon after hours to use their power tools; and somehow she got done. At 13’ 10” she performs well as both a double and solo canoe and is still in our shop, having undergone a well-deserved refinish in 2021 and ready for more adventures.
